I have to remove the controller from my Bluetooth devices (which shows it's currently paired) and pair it again, repeating this every single time I want to play with it over bluetooth. The trouble is: this Xbox controller can't do the same. I use a common Bluetooth adapter that has worked with a previous Dualshock 4 normally, which means I have been able to pair it to my PC and, when Bluetooth was turned on, I could just press the Playstation button to automatically reconnect it to my PC (not needing to pair it again).
